Five Public Restroom Trends for 2022

Latest 2022 trends to upgrade your public restroom

Public restrooms are a sore point for most people. It is great to have one close by in case of emergencies but because they are public and shared, they aren’t the cleanest, and using them isn’t the most pleasant.

These facilities are notorious for being filthy, especially without good hygiene approaches. For those who run an office, your shared restroom is a reflection of your operation. Keeping it clean and tidy can impress a potential client and improve employee morale. Moreover, a clean shared restroom can halt the spread of diseases and keep everyone on your staff happy and healthy.

With the pandemic barely behind us, there are still a lot of operations that have put emphasis on how to deal with office bathrooms, One of the best things that came about the global crisis is that standards for cleanliness and maintenance have increased and more technologies have
been developed specifically for shared spaces.

That said, certain restroom trends have emerged in the last few years. In 2022, here is what you should expect:

Restroom maintenance gets higher marks

First on the list is a positive side effect of the spread of the virus. Half of the population has confidence that public restrooms are now cleaner and in better condition than it was before the pandemic. They believe that because of the pandemic, these spaces are more frequently sanitized and maintained.

Before the COVID-19 outbreak, 70% of Americans reported that they had an unpleasant restroom experience. More than half of the population would choose to wait until they are home as opposed to using a public restroom.

Increased awareness and cleaning protocols, as well as stocking of supplies, are now being observed and a lot of people have grown to appreciate the changing of tide.

Furthermore, 79% percent believe that posting a cleaning schedule and thoroughly updating it is very important. They think that these kinds of posting can go a long way in reassuring the public that the facility is taking proper steps to make sure that they offer a clean environment.

Emphasis on touchless technology

Eighty-four percent of the population believe that it is vital for public restrooms to be equipped with touchless fixtures during this pandemic. On the other hand, 63 % say they are more likely to return to a business that offers no-touch technology in its restrooms.

In fact, most people perceive touch-free technology as the number one feature that makes them feel safer from germs and bacteria in public restrooms.  Touchless features are also the general public’s most wanted improvement when it comes to restrooms and more cleaning or restocking of supplies takes second place.

With technology pacing forward, there are different touchless restroom features that can be considered. This may include faucets, flushers, soap dispensers, and entrance doors.

Consumers are down to spend cash at a business with pleasing restrooms

benefits of having a pleasing public restroom

Most consumers are very willing to put their money behind businesses that have a good restroom hygiene protocol. Almost 60% say they are likely to spend more cash at a business with well-maintained, clean, and hygienic restrooms. Another 58% say that when they are out running errands, they’ll take restroom breaks at a facility that they know has “good” restrooms.

With this, it can be considered that more people are down to spend more money just to have a great bathroom experience. For most people, the ability to use a store or a company’s clean bathroom is part of the customer experience.

Unpleasant restrooms tarnish the overall image of a business

Consumers believe that a restroom is a reflection of a business. As such, companies that have an unkempt shared restroom get marked down by these customers.

In 2022, 51% of the population say that an unpleasant public restroom at a business shows poor management. This is a staggering increase from 39% in 2021. 43% reported that coming across neglected restrooms lowers their perspective of the establishment and 38% think that unclean restrooms show the business doesn’t care about its customers and their safety.

Maintaining a Clean Shared Restroom

Though we are in the foothills of the global crisis, the majority of the population remains wary of the COVID-19 virus. As a business owner, it is your responsibility to keep up with the trends above and implement them in your workspace.

The first step in incorporating new cleaning technologies is to review the protocols that you currently have. Doing so would shed light on what works and what doesn’t work for your operation. Some cleaning methods have been rendered useless by the pandemic; it is high time that they are updated accordingly.

Likewise, not all companies are created equal. Your needs and priorities might not be the same as the office next to you. Before making the investment in popular restroom trends, it is a good idea to talk to your staff about what would make them feel safer in the workspace. This step would not only boost their morale but also protect them from pathogens beyond COVID-19.

Lastly, some trends aren’t meant to last. The precautions brought about by COVID-19 might not be necessary for the next few years. Nevertheless, it is still best to err on the side of safety. To know exactly what your office needs, consulting with cleaning experts is a good idea to eliminate the noise. Professional cleaners are up-to-date with all the latest maintenance trends. Their services can take the burden of responsibility away from your shoulders. Through their help, you can focus on scaling and growing your business. Their expert advice is an invaluable resource that is necessary in these trying and uncertain times.
